It was recently reported that the fashion industry considers a Size 6 Plus-Sized.
Ridiculous.
Here are the thoughts of very fit and healthy CrossFit men and women on this claim.
Thank you Journey TV for creating this and Paleo OMG for posting it.
I posted this to our box’s LiveFit 310 tumblr, but I wanted to share it with all my fitblr people. A ridiculous claim. Honest and hearty answers from fellow CrossFitting men and women.
I’d rather be strong than a stick. Just sayin’.
When Size Matters
Depending on how long you have been following me, but you may or may not know that I have refused to purchase any new jeans since starting this journey 7 months ago. Needless to say, my once fruitful collection of jeans has dwindled down to me being left with about only two pairs, and even those are pushing it (as in they’re borderline going to drop off my waist). People keep asking me what size I am now but I don’t know because I hadn’t even gone to try on jeans, it made me nervous. The pair I mentioned that I bought without trying on? Ended up returning them before trying them on. But then a few nights ago the boyfriend kindly said…
Babe…[as he fits his whole hand down the back waist of my jeans] look how loose these are on you….you need jeans that fit.
Fiiiiiine. But since I am not done, I decided to go the cheap jeans route so Target it is! When I started this journey I was a size 13…sometimes a 15. So I grabbed a few pairs, some 11’s and some 9’s…was pretty certain that I’m in no way a 7 yet. 11’s were first…and they were too big! Then the 9’s….nice! Slightly, very slightly big, but I know there is no way I am a 7 yet so I guess I’m in between technically so I got the 9’s!
I did end up going with a different color than the ones pictured though! I ended up going with dark charcoal skinny jeans in a size 9! You guys, do you have any idea how long it has been since I was a single digit size?????!!!!
Serving Sizes to Real Life Things
Okay, I really doubt I am the only one but there are times when I get thrown for a loop with serving sizes, specially when I’m in a hurry. And specially when serving sizes are in metrics unit. Which, by the way, the U.S. should just go metric already…I don’t get it, besides the U.S., only Liberia and Miyanmar are the only other countries using imperial units. We’re the only industrialized nation that uses imperial. Because we’re unique? Oh yes, yes, I concur.
Anyway, back to my point! I like having comparisons when it comes to measurements , specially for times when I am out and about. So here are some cheats to measurements to better track your eating:
Vegetables/Fruits:
One cup of food (8 ounces) = Large handful or small adult fist

1 baked potato/sweet potato = Size of a fist or computer mouse

1/2 cup cooked broccoli = Size of a light bulb

1/2 cup serving for general = Size 6 asparagus spears; 7 or 8 baby carrots or carrot sticks or 1 ear of corn on the cob

1 medium sized fruit = Size of a tennis ball or fist

Meat/Poultry/Fish:
3 ounces of cooked meat = The palm of an average hand

3 ounces grilled/baked fish = Size of a checkbook

Cheese:
1 1/2 ounces of natural cheese = 9-volt battery or 3 dominoes

One ounce of processed cheese = a thumb

Extras:
One tablespoon (tbsp) = Tip of thumb from last crease
One teaspoon (tsp) = Tip of your little finger from last crease
One cupped hand holds two tablespoon of liquid

On those jeans….
It’s been pointed out that the jeans post from last night may not be quite on target as being a size 27….
Let me explain…the pants say size 27, in the defense of the jeans, they’re a slightly stretchy material for one, and two, I have a high suspicion that this specific pair runs big. I’m not AS familiar with this kind of sizing (like I mentioned I usually just get jeans that have sizes that run in 9, 11, 13 etc). But do realize that I not a size 27, considering after showing my sister, after saying congratulations and she’s proud, she said she is a size 25/26 (and she is little!) which also got me thinking.
Anyway, the specific size of the jeans wasn’t meant to be the focus of that post. The mere fact that when my friend gave me the jeans toward the end of January I couldn’t even zip them up! I was frustrated! It just fueled my fire even more to get healthier and shed some poundage. That was the point of it….
