Am I real CrossFitter now that I have Innov-8 Lite 230’s AND New Balance Minimus’?
Took me way too long to get legit CrossFit appropriate shoes…over a year too long.
I got myself some Fila Skeletoes! Let’s try these out!

Running Shoes
Remember my post about the new running shoes I got from a specialty store called Road Runner and how they fitted me for these shoes, etc?
Well, these shoes were a bit pricey (for me), not gonna lie, and I got the insoles for comfort and ease as well, coming out to a little under $200. Both my friend and I got shoes at the same time there and their credit card machines had gone down, so they had to manually enter our credit card information, which was fine.
Then few days after that, my friend noticed on her check card statement that she was double charged by them, so she called and complained, showed proof, and she was granted a refund for the extra charge.
Meanwhile, fearing the same happened to me, I check my Amex statement, and nada. My friend tells me it might not have gone through yet because takes longer to go through on a credit card versus a check card.
And today I check, it being almost a month later, and nothing! Seems my friend was charged for her pair AND my pair, and she received a refund for the extra charge…so in the end…my shoes were FREE!
Morally? Probably not the best, but would you (being a poor post-college person) really go back and complain because they DIDN’T charge you? :) I think not.
Guess who got her new sexy heels in the mail today? Me! Tried them on and they fit perfect, love love love!
Today I went to Roadrunner Sports (World’s Largest Running & Walking Store) because I had heard great things about them and their service and what they carry. Mind you, this was an impromptu trip there with my friend and I was in a dress and dressy boots. Luis, an associate, asks if we need help and I explain that I have Nike Shocks (and he makes a face) and that I easily get shin splints and that the top inside part of my feet hurt after a hectic workout or running and I get blisters easily, etc. He asks if I want to get tested/fitted for shoes….I tell him “umm, I’m in a dress”. He tells me, “Hmm…well…you’ll only need to run for about 5 seconds” (this time I make a face), so then he offered to grab running pants from the store for me to put on under my dress haha.
Got barefoot, put on pants under my dress and got to business. First test is to walk over this platform one foot at a time. This machine measures how you step, whether it’s more inward, or outward, where the pressure is, etc. Turns out, I’m more flatfooted in my left foot than my right. Ugh, great, I have wonky feet. And just by the way I walk, I put lot of pressure on balls of my feet, which he says is common but can cause them to hurt more easily.
Next step, run on the treadmill at a comfortable pace for about 5 seconds. I was looking mighty sexy in my dress with running pants on under and barefoot. You run on the treadmill and there is a camera behind you that records your feet as you run, to check on your step as you run. He said I have good form, but my ankles are very flexible, therefore, they easily can go inward while running (since I was barefoot it was obvious) which is why after that he recommended I need “Motion Control” running shoes. There are 3 categories: Motion Control, Stability and Neutral. I was also recommended a cushioned insole.
Then next step was finding the right shoe. Let me just tell you, the sales people here ROCK. They are uber patient. The lady that worked with us (my friend and I), seriously brought out about 5-6 pairs for each of us in total, going off the results of our step test. And she personally measured each of our feet, too. My left foot is slightly bigger than my right, I’m such a mess. She told us to go ahead and run around the store to test them, do what we want.
The final product after trying on numerous pairs? Best fit for me was the New Balance’s.
Their return policy? 6 months to try them, if they hurt or bother you, you can come back and get a different pair.
Fun fact: Luis, the guy who did the step test is the one that filled out my form and I noticed afterwards one part that he wrote: Shoe History: Nike Shox :(
Yep, just like that, sad face and all.
WANT….like now. I can already picture a perfect outfit to go with these… *sigh*
Dr. Scholls Gellin Mission
Success! Will test out tomorrow!
My boots arrived!!! And look how effin cute they are wrapping it in gold like that.
I have a running shoes issue, or maybe it’s me. Mine are pretty close to the ones pictures (Nike Shocks). These shoes aren’t that old, maybe 6 months, but my feet still hurt after an intense workout. My heels are well supported and don’t hurt, but it’s usually the balls of my feet and by my big toe. My feet are wide, but not chubby. And I’m slightly flat footed. I also get shin splints fairly easily.
My friend said I should go to somewhere like Road Runner where they specialize in fitting running shoes based on your step and give you 6 months to return them if you don’t like them. Someone else told me maybe I should get an insole to put inside.
What gives?
These shoes are uh-mazing.
