2012 5K Color Run - Orange County
This was literally the happiest 5k I have ever done. I’ve done my share of mud runs, which are always fun - running around in mud is always fun. But this was so…colorful. To start, they give everyone a color packet of colored powder to use at the end with everyone at the same time. At every K, you are doused in a color, so by the end you are colorfully covered head to toe - unless you were a pansy and stayed in the middle to avoid being hit. Would do this again in a heart beat.
In other news, my knee wasn’t too pleased that I decided to do a 5K. I can be a stupid girl. My Koach would agree.

120123 - LiveFit Week 2 Begins

As I’ve mentioned, I almost accomplished a perfect score for LiveFit Week 1 but I failed on one day of hydration.

WOD:
5 rounds for time of:

5 Power Cleans (155/105 lbs.)
10 Burpees
150 m Run

Time: 11:19
(3 rounds @ 95#, 2 rounds @ 85#)

Recovering from being sickie so the runs were definitely brutal to me. Thanks to the boys at the finish line yelling at me to push past Allyn at the end….I won by a second!

And I need to work on form for my power cleans – need to keep bar closer to my body….probably would have been able to stick to 95# if I did it with perfect form.

Disclaimer: Clearly I’m behind on posting my WOD’s to here, so please don’t mind me.

111207 - I Did Big Cindy

Whoa daddy. Big Cindy’s a big bitch, but I still kind of love her.

“Big Cindy” WOD - AMRAP 20 Minutes
15 pull ups
30 pushups
45 squats

3 rounds + 8 pull ups, RX

PLUS

1 mi run…I did 1/2 mi because 1) calf got very tight (hence the picture of me rolling it out at work) and 2) out of time, had to get ready for work!

Overall I am happy with my rounds and the fact that I RX’d it!

Run, Jo, run!
Doing one of the thing I highly dislike: running. I only dislike it because I’m not very good at it, and yes, I do know that it’s a matter of conditioning myself, but it does top my “Suck List” for sure. (This is during a WOD)

Officially signed up! I’ll be honest, I haven’t been working on my running as much as I should be, so I’m doing just the 5K run for now, but love that I’ll be doing it with my CrossFit 310 peeps!

CrossFit 100726 - Helen’s a Beast

Warm up:

  • run 150m
  • 3 rounds -> bear crawl, pushups 5, squats 10

WOD - “Helen”

check out the video above to see what Helen looks like

3 rounds

  • 400m run
  • 21 kettle swings (RX is 1.5 pood/1 pood*)
  • 12 pull ups

Time: 14:32 (1 pood/big band)

I really loathe Helen. This was my first time doing a full blown Helen. I had done “Helen-ish” before (which had also been brutal) but this WOD combines three things I really dislike: running, kettle swings (when it’s heavy), and continuous pullups. We all know my feelings about running, although I am getting better. I don’t mind kettle swings at a lighter weight, and I hadn’t been doing heavy kettles because of my back injury some weeks ago, but I am definitely better now, so back to the pood! And pull ups for some reason wear me out very quickly when doing them continuous! My forearms were killing me after the WOD! And after the running and trying to breathe, the last thing I wanted to do was those kettle swings. At least I mostly did the WOD as RX’d except for the pull ups!

CrossFit 100607 - A Running Fool

Warm up/foam roll/ball roll/foot work/pre-moves

I also attempted some pull-up action…..dammit I am ALMOST there! Ugh.

Group warm up:

  • 20 squats
  • 10 burpees
  • 20 push ups (med. box)
  • 20 kettle swings (10 with 18#, 10 with 26#)
  • 10 burpees

WOD

  • Run 1 mile for time

When I read that’s what we were doing, I died a little inside. You all know how much I dislike running and the only reason I dislike it is because I suck at it. I know it’s a matter of conditioning your body but I suck at sticking to it.

My time? About 9:38

Reason I say “about” is because we’re not sure lol. On our half-way point he gave us our “split time” and then gave us our final time….yeah, I didn’t hear either one because I was in the zone and trying my hardest to breathe. But you know what??

I RAN THE WHOLE WAY WITHOUT STOPPING TO WALK AT ALL.

I know to you seasoned runners that’s like nothing, not even a warm up, but to me, that is a big step! So when I finished I also didn’t hear what he said, had to ask him after and he says he THINKS it’s about 9:38 lol. Give or take a few seconds I’m sure.

Skill:

  • Strict Press: 5x 35lb, 5x 45lb, 5x 50lb, 4x 60lb (last rep got too heavy!)
  • Push press: 5x 45lb (and sadly that’s all I got to do because then I had to leave)

Crossfit 1000503 aka Day I Saw the Light

Warm Up/Foam Roll/Footwork

Pull-up practice (can now do one from small box standing almost flat - chin up)

Skill:

Turkish Get Ups (hold kettle bell in one hand - I used 26lbs - while laying down and hold straight up, then get up while holding it straight up the whole time, and back down - form very important)

Pistol Rolls (do a full squat, roll back, then roll forward back into a squat - I was able to do these with practice! Now the single leg pistol roll is a different story haha)

WOD for Time

3 Rounds

  • 10 Medicine Ball Cleans of 10lbs
  • 400m Run
  • 10 Deadlifts (75lbs)

12:05

Total: 30 Medicine Ball Cleans (10lbs), 1200m Run, 30 Deadlifts (75lbs)

Okay, I know I keep saying this but I’m going to say it again: I need to work on my running. I can keep it pretty well with everything else, but running, argh. And let’s face it, being a decent runner or at least sprinter is necessary in life because what if some asshole tries to follow and chase me in an alley, I better be able to book it faster than him! So, note to self: run on days of no crossfit. Because that is what got me for this WOD, the damn running. I was huffing and puffing and by the last round I was ready to pass out. And actually kind of did, on the floor, where my trainer I think got a picture of me. Have I mentioned how much I love my trainer and the other girls I train with there? They’re super encouraging and push you to do better always.
