Per Cordain, no it is not strictly paleo. Nothing related to it being “healthy”, just the impact on acid-base balance. That being said, many paleo Gurus such as Rob Wolff don’t worry about it. Most folks, myself included, use vinegar on salads and in sauces.
Lunch Nom
Check out what this lucky girl had for lunch today. Meaty deliciousness and seasonal salad on a fancy rectangular plate.
Although I am not much of a Westside girl (just don’t think I can live here) - but I do work here - I do like that they usually don’t bat an eyelash when you make requests like no bread/bun or rice, etc. They’re used to it I’m sure.
This was originally a Philly Cheese Steak (grand cru gruyère, aged white cheddar, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers) sandwich that I kindly requested without bun, even adding, “If it’s possible”, being used to judgment or blank stares - but my request was granted without side eyes. This bunless beauty was served with a side seasonal salad (pear, feta, sun-dried tomatoes and cucumber).
I am queen of taking sandwiches apart and only eating its innards! Here is some lettuce greens with the innards of a BLT and a pesto turkey sandwich. One those days at work well we order catered style so I had no choice in meal. Strategy folks.
Yesterday’s delicious Peruvian lunch of Cebiche de Pescado (Halibut) with a side of fried sweet potato slices. I did not eat the corn, in case you were wondering. One of my favorite Peruvian dishes ever.
Worked through my lunch today but at least I got to eat this delicious rotisserie chicken, salad drizzled with balsamic vinegar de Modena and sautéed spinach.
And here I present, uncured applewood bacon wrapped grilled tiger shrimp. And avocado.
It was drop-on-your-knees-roll-your-eyes-back delicious.
Clearly I forgot to photograph my lunch nom, buuuut it was jamaican jerk chicken, baked plantains and small serving of quinoa (which is actually a fruit not a grain - still carby though so in small doses only).
Burger well built from Stacked. Lettuce wrapped angus beef patty, bacon and fried egg. My kind of burger.
Today work ordered from Wahoo’s and I picked the Wahoo’s Salad with Cajun fish (wild caught) and opted for no tortilla strips or dressing and extra poco de gallo. NOM
Lunch nom from Tender Greens was a Mediterranean Spinach Salad that has spinach, cucumber, tomato, little bit of feta and free range grilled chicken all drizzled with Organic Balsamic Modena (I opted out of the dressing that comes with the salad).
Speaking of balsamic vinegar. Recently had the question come up of whether balsamic vinegar is paleo or not. My findings conclude that it’s not strict paleo, not because it’s unhealthy, but because of its acidic content. So in moderation, small amounts (let’s not drown our salads in it), it is fine. BUT, beware. Many may be labeled in the front as simply balsamic vinegar, but ALWAYS check the ingredient label. Some will have sugar, or “natural flavorings” and other junk. Make sure it is just balsamic vinegar.

I actually really like the organic one we have at work, that I even went to Whole Foods to look for it (after noticing not any regular grocery carried it)…and yeah…one fairly small bottle is $35.00.
O_O
After still feeling kind of queasy today (felt queasy all day yesterday - apparently there’s a stomach bug going around), I had to eat lunch.
And go me for finding something good and paleo at Ninjin Sushi (no, I am not a fan of sashimi, it’s a texture thing). Spicy Grilled Chicken and grilled onions. Nomtastic. And at least almost finished it. Tummy behave.
At work today we had clients in house. When we have clients, we usually get buffet style lunch so it is easier for people to serve themselves rather than individual orders. Granted we order from fairly classy restaurants, but nonetheless, sandwich variety and pasta are ordered.
Two big no-no’s for me.
So I took the innards of a sandwich (roasted turkey breast, avocado, lettuce and tomatoes - and tossed the bread.
Saddest part, is that I’ve been queasy and nauseated all day that I only took a couple bites.
I love it when Whole Foods’ are big. That came out sounding a little pervtastic. There are certain Whole Foods out there that are larger than average. Meaning they have more corners where they make made-to-order foods for you.
I present to you, the Whole Foods Taqueria’s tostada salad sans tostada with free range chicken, bit of cheese, fresh guacamole, cilantro and onions over bed of greens. And lurking in the background is a watermelon agua fresca (made of only watermelon and agave nectar).
Some breakfast for lunch nom for Jinky’s in Santa Monica, CA. Scramble of eggs, spinach, and ground turkey.
I’m in major kicking rocks mood because I may have to move again. At least it’ll be by myself, no more roommates. But the search gives me anxiety.
Sadness of the Day: hamburger with avocado, no bun from Bagel Nosh (honestly was my only paleo option). And you’d think a hamburger regularly comes with lettuce and tomato at least, maybe even an onion slice or two.
It came with nothing but the avocado. Added tiny pieces of leftover rotisserie shreds. Sad.
Kalifornia Kale from California Monster Salads: kale, chicken, sweet onions, dried cranberries. I’ve opted out of red peppers and dressing and used balsamic vinegar instead.
Side note: this is an enormous salad that I split into two. Hello dinner meal.
