CrossFit 310 Celebrates Its 2nd Year

The original Girl Fight girls of 310
On Friday, May 18th, my box, CrossFit 310, celebrated its second anniversary with its family and their friends. Last year I unfortunately couldn’t make so this year I made it a point to be in attendance. And I’m so glad I did, it turned out great! There are so many reasons why we were all there.
Family.
One thing that I love about our box is the family. We’ve all become each others family in one way or another. From those of us who have known each other since the beginning (ahem, girl fight) to those who have been here only a couple weeks, Unlike some other boxes that I have been to, we make it a point to be very welcoming to the newbies. Think back to when you first began. Specially those who know no one coming in, like I was when I started two years ago. Those with no athletic background. All these people need the support and reassurance that we all began somewhere. That there is always a goal for anyone, even the “elite” athletes at the gym. And I think our box does amazing at this.
Friends.
It’s clear many of us have become a family through this little thing called CrossFit. But, another perk to this, is the friends we’ve come out with. I have countless memories of WOD-ing with people I consider very close friends. Beyond that, I have amazing memories of doing things outside of the gym. Whether it’s something as simple as going to dinner, or meeting at a friends place for a bite, or going out and doing very non=paleo things. Just let loose with them. These are the friends that see you at your worst (or best, however you want to look at it) when a WOD is just beating you down and you’re sweating like an insane beast with a dab of delirium. They understand.

The push.
Like the CrossFit Games Facebook so eloquently put it, this is the only sport where the loudest cheers happen for the person finishing last. We push each other, push each other hard. In those moments when you just want to quit. When your body is just telling you, “No more,” is when we all step in and push you. This is a big reason why I personally feel the need to be in a box, rather than home WODs. I like and I crave that motivation, that push.
The competition.
Let’s face it. Most of us who continue to CrossFit have a competitive bone or three in us. We want to beat that person next to us. We all look at the white board to see what time and weight to beat - well, except us 6 am-ers, there is no one before us, so we must set the bar. We scope out everyone’s numbers and from that gauge who to chase. I personally have a little list of those I chase or try to set the bar for - here’s to you Brittny Burford, Helen Medina, and Carrie Rey.

Koach.
One of my favorite people, ever. When I was going through a rough time of not making it to class on time or at all because of my new job, he was extremely understanding. It was a dark time for me. It honestly affected me a lot not being able to regularly CrossFit for nearly eight months. Outsiders would ask me why I don’t just go to a different CrossFit box, one that’s closer to Santa Monica or on my commute home to make it on time. Why? Because I did not want to be coached by anyone else. Because I consider those I CrossFit with, family and dear friends. Because I love the culture of CrossFit 310 and of my Koach. Because he has been so helpful with my stupid knee problem, determined to get it better with me. Because he’s a goof ball and kind of a spaz. Because he deeply cares about every single one of us.
Thank you CrossFit 310. You’re a game changer.
Just hanging out at the OC Throwdown where CrossFit 310’s very own Sean O’Rourke is competing!
Happy first birthday my sweet pea Evie Bella.
My contribution to the family gathering: Beef and Chicken meatballs mixed with mozzarella, Parmesan and secret seasonings. Slightly coated with coconut flour.
Recipe to come soon.
Miss Evie Bella says Happy Easter Tumblr world!
Can you believe my niece is only 3 months? She is a giant! And wearing 6-9 months clothes. I’ve noticed through the years that the jolliest babies are the chubby ones and the whiny ones are the thin babies. It’s a scientific fact*!!!

CrossFit 310: Year One
Love, love, love this community, the Germains, fellow CrossFitters, and the sweaty beast I become there. Thanks to cf I have come SO far. When I started, I could only do pushups from my knees. Never imagined I could do a pull up, ever. Deadlift more than my body weight? Never.
Now? I can do 25 consecutive strict pushups. I can do strict pull up from hanging. I can string 4 kips together. I can deadlift 195lbs. I can power clean 100lbs. The list goes on. I love this, with all my heart.
To see me doing push ups go to 3:55, and to see me do a chin up go to 7:45! There are random pictures of me throughout but I’m sure you’ve seen most of them!
My one year anniversary with CF 310 is April 1st!
Something That Would Never Happen at a Globo Gym
I leave for work this morning (rushed as you saw in a previous post) and I forget my gym bag on my bed! As I leave work I ask my fellow CrossFitting friend what she is up to tonight and she says 6:30 cf class then she is free so I tell her I’m going to go watch!
I get there with intention to watch the WOD since clearly I can’t do the WOD in jeans, boots, and Greek top. Coach Kris sees me and I wine that I forgot my clothes at home so I’m just going to watch. He immediately offers some pants he has in the office, and a shirt, if I want to workout. I am surprised but immediately agree. Figuring I’ll do barefoot activities (work on kips, back squats, push ups, etc), and then Jo, my friend, offers her shoes to me because she had done the WOD earlier.
So the only clothes I was wearing that were actually mine were: undies, bra, and socks.
Lucky me, the WOD was ALL running (note my sarcasm since running is my kryptonite).

with little miss Evie Bella. She loves napping with her Tia!
My choice of nom at my parents house for Peruvian fathers day feast!
Little piece of pollo a la brasa, lomo saltado (I picked off the fries), aji verde, fried plantains, cucumbers and guacamole! Phew!
Then had some fresh fruit for dessert!
Hostess with the Mostest: Brunch Edition
As I mentioned before, today I hosted brunch at my house and I had my parents, sister and her husband, and my brother and his girlfriend over. I made the main dishes that included:

My Jojo Frittata-ish in a casserole dish sliced into squares. This was highly enjoyed by everyone! Note to self: grease the casserole dish more next time so it won’t stick as much.

Sweet Potato Hash Brown! This took some work, but it was worth it because it came out top notch. The night before I peeled three sweet potatoes (a chore I absolutely hate doing - peeling) and grated the potatoes. And I simply sauteed them in coconut oil in a big pan. Finger lickin’ good and it was also a hit.

Bacon. Oh, the bacon. I had nearly forgotten to buy the bacon for today so i could only go to Albertsons and of course they didn’t have any uncured or nitrate free bacon, and I’m not too knowledgeable in thick cut versus applewood versus different brands, etc. So I grabbed Albertsons Low Sodium because it was on sale. Mistake. They were super thin and not nearly as tasty as my usual uncured and nitrate-free Trader Joe’s or Niman Ranch brands. Lesson learned. They were still tasty, but just thin and not as flavorful as I would have liked.

Fresh Fruit Salad. My mom was in charge of bringing over a fresh fruit salad that I honestly thought she was going to buy a pre-made platter at the store. Nope, this woman went all out and bought all kinds of fresh fruit and slaved away chopping it all up which she then sprinkled ground cinnamon on top. This huge bowl of deliciousness included: watermelon, pineapple, grapes, oranges, strawberries and kiwi.

Panera Assorted Bagels. Bad sister! She stopped at Panera on her way to my place and picked up this huge box of assorted bagels with a couple different kinds of cream cheese. No worries people, I did not consume such sneaky bagels (even though they did look mighty tasty)! I let everyone else dig in on those bad boys.
All in all it turned out very well and everyone thought the food was great! My brother and his girlfriend brought champagne and orange juice for the mimosas which aren’t pictured. Clean up sucks as usual but it really wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be!
04.24.10 & 04.25.10 Birthday Season is Ongoing!
04.24.10 Tio’s Birthday!

These are the totals for Saturday which was basically another slice of my Jojo’s Frittata-Ish and Starbucks drip with the ladies. Then ran a bunch of errands and actually cleaned A LOT (which I didn’t put into fitness) and then rushed out to my aunt’s house for my uncle’s birthday celebration. Had some Pollo a la Brasa )Peruvian Rottiserrie Chicken) - which was divine, some salad, sausage and aji verde (Peruvian green sauce). Oh and as i posted yesterday I had a Sam Adams Summer Ale - mmm yum. Then that was followed by ladies night at my place with Riesling (wine), and I made chocolate fondue that we dipped strawberries in! Went over on cals (finally!) but the ladies night was worth it.
04.25.10 The Hostess with the Mostest

Decided to go ahead and post all of the food for today because I thought I was more behind on my food updates than I actually was!
Anywhoever, today I hosted brunch at my house and had my family over like I mentioned earlier. It turned out great! I’ll give it its one post later (with pictures of what was made). We had a good time and good food! No complaints here.
That was brunch, so I really didn’t have lunch. I went walking with my friend at the beach for almost 3 miles and then we had a coffee and chatted. Got to love good conversations.
Headed home and took a much needed nap then pondered on what I should eat because I still wasn’t really hungry but come on, if I didn’t eat I would have been at like 700-800 cals total for the day, not good. So I opted for some of that Pesto Chicken I had leftover from a few nights ago, leftover sweet potato hash brown from earlier and cut up tomato and onions. Then I picked at some of the leftover fruit too.
Oh yeah, the roomies came back from base after and it’s one of their birthdays and they insisted I cheered a beer with them so i did, but only had a bit (was already full) and passed it on to my other roomie.
Totals were actually pretty good except for the fact that I slightly went over on carbs but oh well, the mimosa that I rarely ever have was well worth it to share with the family!
What I’m having tonight courtesy of my older brother and his girlfriend!
Peruvian Ceviche
I don’t think I say enough how happy and grateful I am to have a supportive family during this healthy journey of mine! More often than not they make sure there is something “healthy & yummy” for me to eat at gatherings, or they enjoy trying out “my way” of eating for some dinners as well.
Tonight just happens to be very primal-friendly for me, yay! Except for the chicha morrada (Peruvian Purple Corn Punch), but I might just have a sip because that is very rare for me to have ;) I’ll picture document my adventure for you all!
…and one more.
Pictured: Sister and I.
Okay, now onto updating MyPlate from yesterday and catch up to this morning. Yesterday wasn’t the best eating day but I don’t feel bad because I didn’t get a food baby or a food coma and I enjoyed myself celebrating with my grandma and I ran a 5K that morning. And I am back on track this morning.
Another sneak peek shot from grandma’s 90th birthday extravaganza.

Me and my sweet, lovely, hip grandma. Can you believe she is 90???? And that’s my outfit for her party!
Do you recall the one Tatiana styled for me here? Pretty close, eh? I’ll get a better quality picture from my digital camera later, I’m sleepy now, night night tumblrs.
