This Sunday I’ll be participating in the 5k Color Run in Irvine, CA. Since I have a wonky knee still (thorn in my arse), I’ll be jogging and walking it.

I’m just looking forward to being sprayed with colors throughout the run!

120118 - An RX Kind of Day
Even without knowing the WOD, I wore this shirt yesterday morning that I bought at the OC Throwdown from Life as RX - may I just add that it’s super comfortable.
WOD 3 Rounds for time: 20 Pushups 40 Squats 10 Pullups 10 Burpees 40 Abmats
Time: 16:44 RX
Hardest part was pushing through those push ups and the last set of abmat situps! Hands still a bit delicate since the tear two-timing, but I love bodyweight WOD’s!

An Out of Nowhere Clean and Jerk PR

A night that I can make it to CrossFit 310 is always a good night. And even though tonight’s class was a technique class (no WOD), I was still so damn happy to be there. I was told it would be a deadlifting techniques class, which I love to do, but to my delightful surprise, there was also clean and jerks!

Unfortunately, I don’t get to work on these that often but I love them. And it was very useful because boxes all over have Barbell for Boobs (Amazing Grace) coming up this month (our is on October 22nd).

I am blabbing way too much, onto my PR!

Got my technique down and worked up to a 90lb clean and jerk! And I know I could have done more weight but we were out of time. That puts me at #4 on the PR Board for Clean and Jerks! It’d be nice to get to #1…just sayin’. I’ll get there.

Damn it Tumblr Beasts

I had a great post all ready to go and of course the Tumblr Beasts went at it on the server. Grr. Lost forever. And too lazy right now to re-do. Here are the highlights from my last couple days in a row at CrossFit.

PR’d in TGU @ 35# - My left arm is weaker than my right arm and struggled to get it up with my left side, took me 6 tries.

Did a total of 121 STRICT push ups.

Rowed a total of 2,500m - subbed running for rowing on both days because I am recovering/congested.

Other stuff done both days includes abmats, pull ups, k. swings, double unders (which I’ve lost my groove in), and squats.

So sore.

CrossFit: One Year Later

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since I started to CrossFit.  For those of you who don’t know, I came across CrossFit from eating paleo/primal.  I would always look up different recipe ideas, and noticed that many of the people that ate this way, also did this thing called, “CrossFit.”  Being the curious monkey that I am, I researched and Googled.  I was highly intrigued so I looked up local CrossFit locations.  After trying out a couple places, I wasn’t quite convinced. But then I found CrossFit 310, went in, and met with Kris, and the rest is history.

Kris Germain has been the most amazing coach/trainer anyone could ask for.  He has this way of being stern and pushing you to your limits without coming off like an aggressive military drill Sargent.  Kris has an unwavering passion for what he does and those he trains.  He can walk you through progressions and movements with perfect examples and explanations.  He is selfless, kind, and deeply cares for the well being of our community.

The community. The girls (“Girl Fight Hour” is what we would call it back when I began) I first met when I joined were so supportive and helpful and to this day we are all good friends and hang out outside of the gym.  I can definitely count on them and proud to call them friends.  It is great to have people to share this passion with that understand it. Talk to Me Goose is one of those girls.

I joined CF310 when it had only been open for about a month.  Each class roughly had about 5 to 6 people max when I started… now the classes can have anywhere from 12 to 15 people, sometimes more.  Even my best friend, Healthy Fit Babe, finally joined and she loves it.  Our box has grown so much and I continue to meet amazing people and athletes.  I definitely have more people to “chase”.

Now, for shits and giggles, let’s go over the differences from when I started, to now.

Starting:

  • Push ups from knees
  • Couldn’t even dream of a pull up
  • Didn’t know what a REAL squat was
  • Was using up to 10-12lb dumbbells in workouts
  • Had the arm bye-bye flab (you know that arm flab that when you waved at someone it just was not attractive)
  • Dimpled booty
  • Never used barbells - maybe attempted a bench press here and there, but without plates
  • Worked out on my own, pushed myself, but never to near tears or passing out

Now:

  • PR of 25 strict push ups
  • I can do strict pull ups - and now have a PR of 7 stringed kips
  • I can get low, low, low, lowwwwww and squat with a weighed barbell or a kettlebell
  • Throwing around weight like a crazy woman: power cleans, clean & jerks, front squats, back squats, power snatch, thrusters, deadlifts, etc.
  • My arms are now one of my favorite features when they used to be one of my most disliked features
  • Not so dimpled and much stronger booty
  • Love me some barbell action
  • Willingly put myself through brutal workouts that are so intense that on more than one occasion (countless), I have felt like crying, puking or passing out or all of the above, yet I keep coming back for more

In the end, I am utterly grateful that I have found an exercise regimen (if you can even call it that) that I absolutely love and look forward to.  If you think about it, not many women can say they love their workouts.  I do.  And I’m not alone.  So yes, I drank the CrossFit Koolaid a year ago, and I will continue to chug away at it until the unforeseeable future.

Additional note:  I continue to be amazed by all the badass CrossFitters on Tumblr.  You know who you are.  When I started to CrossFit, I was one of about five other CrossFitters on Tumblr, at that.  Now there are countless CrossFitters.  I love how it has become it’s own box: CrossFit Tumblr, where we share our triumphs and tribulations.

“This Is CrossFit”

Moral of the story, don’t doubt yourself, don’t tell yourself you can’t, don’t underestimate yourself. Coach Kris always says when you’re pushing through to take it one rep at a time, to think every time “just one more” and again “just one more” and pull through.

Officially signed up! I’ll be honest, I haven’t been working on my running as much as I should be, so I’m doing just the 5K run for now, but love that I’ll be doing it with my CrossFit 310 peeps!

CrossFit 101011 - The Countdown

I arrived a little late because once again I had to deal with my car situation, which by the way, I picked up Purple Rain (my car) from the shop, she looks as good as new, but had to pay my damn deductible at the same time. Hurtful for the pockets. Anyway…

Warm up: 800m run (1/2 mile)

Skill: Back Squat

3 x 95, 105, 110, 115, 120 (might have been able to go up to my PR but ran out of time)

WOD

50 double unders

40 kettle swings (35lbs)

30 push ups (strict)

20 goblet squats (35lbs)

10 burpees

400m run

Time: 11:36

The kettle swings and push ups did me in! I would have RX’d this WOD if I would have done 44lbs kettle swing and goblet squat, but our box only has a couple 44lb kettles and I didn’t get to one in time. But come to think of it, that would have been extra brutal. Oh and another thing, I got stuck with double unders again. Got a good rhythm of about 20 or so in, and then after I kept getting stuck going like two at a time.

It Seems Like Yesterday

Warning: It’s a long one! (this warning goes to you Paleo Whiskey haha)

So had the idea to slowly go through my archives or my healthy adventure since when I started in January. Almost 40lbs lost later and I am looking back like it is a diary. I would get so impatient. So frustrated. Ups and downs. Friend of mine had gone through my old posts when she was bored one day and mentioned that that is motivating, to look at my old posts. And she wasn’t referring to pictures, but to what I wrote, because everyone can relate to the frustrations, being impatient and not thinking you can do it. So if this helps anyone, that’ll be enough.
