Burger well built from Stacked. Lettuce wrapped angus beef patty, bacon and fried egg. My kind of burger.
Grass fed Kobe protein burger nom for lunch today. Divine and I conquered.
Yes, this happened, and I’m okay with it. I can’t even remember the last time I had a burger as is (no special ordering), or French fries, that’s how long ago it was. And Burger City Grill had opened right by my place to rave reviews (some went as far as to say it competed with In N Out). I promised myself that the first time I tried this place that I’ll have the full experience, with the bun, the sauce and fries, just for the first time.
I had what they call the Lomita Burger (avocado, bacon and cheese with grilled onions) and friendboy and I shared fries! It was divine and worth it, and I at least had the full experience once! From now on if/when I go back, protein-style and no sauce or fries it is :)
Lunch Nom
Low Carb Six Dollar Burger at Carl’s Jr with no cheese, pickles (I just highly dislike them), or any sauces - then I just added a bit of mustard, and also had a side salad (no croutons or dressing, used lemons instead).
Nom.
Excuse the fried zucchini’s in the back…silly sister.
05.22.10 Warning: I Had Bread!

Per usual, I met up with my sister at Starbucks to chat about life (with my 3 egg omelet & avocado in tupperware). The baristas there know us already and are used to me bringing my breakfast but I always order coffee so they don’t mind at all. And I’ve been experimenting with different coffee strengths with the barista, glad he is patient with me. Today I tried a Pike Place Roast mixed with Komodo Dragon with room for cream and today was the day i asked if they carry heavy whipping cream (and they do!).
I know how odd my lunch looks haha. Okay, so I decided to try a dessert recipe: Coconut Custard. And while I was making it I snacked on half an apple and a tablespoon of almond butter. The result of the coconut custard? It was good, but not delicious. It needs more sweetness. Was going to post the recipe but didn’t see the point if it wasn’t as delicious as I would have liked. So the rest of the lunch ingredients are of me tasting the custard I made.
Then off to celebrate my dad’s 60th birthday at Marmalade Cafe with the family! We decorated everything in Lakers colors because my dad is the biggest Laker fan! Oh and I should mention that earlier today, my siblings and I went on a top secret mission and bought my dad a new 32” Panasonic LCD TV for him and my mom’s room! We snuck it in their house and left it in there with a note while they weren’t home. Mom informed us that my dad came home and was speechless, got teary eyed and insisted that my mom take pictures of it with him on the couch. He even called his sisters in Peru to tell them! He’s so cute.
Anyway, back to the food! Of course they brought bread, and normally I’m perfectly fine passing on it, but today I just had an urge, so I took one. At least they were wheat! They actually had olives baked in, too, but obviously MyPlate wouldn’t have that. Also had an Amstel Light, which wasn’t too bad! My dinner was the Marmalade Burger with onions, tomato, slice of provolone cheese, but without the bun. Got an herb salad on the side and barely dipped into the lemon vinaigrette dressing and also got sweet potato fries on the side that I shared with others. I wasn’t too out of control with my food! My dad’s birthday “cake” was a cake made out of cupcakes decorated in Lakers! The cupcake cake had vanilla cupcakes and chocolate cupcakes. I had one chocolate cupcake with very little frosting. I did it for my dad! I’m not usually a cake/cupcake person period, but these little guys were tasty.
I’m actually VERY surprised I didn’t go over on calories or carbs today! I think it easily is because I had a pretty small lunch, but by the end of dinner I was pretty damn full. The sugar has to be off. And I just noticed the cupcake totals are very off because it says 0g sugar? Lies! I know for a fact the cupcake brought me over on sugars. Well, tomorrow’s another day, and definitely have to get a workout in. Perhaps some beach volleyball in my future?
Tonight’s dinner!
Turkey Burger (cut up), Sauteed Kale & Spinach and a Steamed Sweet Potato
Seasoned the turkey burger with some minced garlic, ground black pepper and onion powder (in bit of coconut oil) which was a good combination.
This was my first time ever cooking with kale (it was part of the organic delivery - every 2 weeks they pick in-season local produce to send to me) and it didn’t turn out too shabby. Since it was my first time, figure my safe bet was to sautee it mixed in with some spinach (because I love) and chopped garlic over bit of coconut oil.
And my quick way to have a sweet potato for me is…..the MICROWAVE! Wash it, stab it a few times with a sharp knife (good for frustrations), then saran wrap it, and depending on the size of the sweet potato it’s between 5-7 minutes or so. Mine was medium/average size so I put it for 6 minutes.
03.26.10 Full of Creations!

As I posted earlier, my breakfast was pretty much leftovers that i didn’t want going bad…and hey, who says you have to have typical “breakfast” food for breakfast!
Had myself my typical favorite creation at Subway for lunch which is basically a Greek salad with chicken that’s mmm mmm mm.
Fitness Friday! What do I keep saying? That my workouts are epic on Friday’s? Well, stands true yet again! I get so into it, I love it.
Posted my delicious burger creation earlier! Man, that was good stuff, definitely recommend any of you to make some! Then followed with a dessert creation that I also posted earlier. I honestly had never had coconut milk, and I know it’s high calorie/fat but it’s PURE/NATURAL and oh so sweet and went perfect with some vanilla and cinnamon and boiled a bit and then drizzled onto fresh strawberries…..mmmm!
Under on carbs AND sugars?? Score! I’ve been told and read (on this primal lifestyle) to not worry too much about going over on my calories by a bit, or going over on fat/cholesterol (so as long as it’s natural fats from REAL food - not processed ever).
But having had bit of starch on the last couple days (one day due to a bday and the other because it was there) I have felt kind of bloated. Sat and thought about it, and recalled that I was told that would happen *sigh*. My body is no longer used to those kind of carbs and it bloats me now. Starting to go away, but still, felt icky.
My fabulous primal jojo burger!
I made the patties myself out of ground chuck from trader joes butcher shop and mixed it with goat cheese, ground cumin, minced garlic, red wine vinegar and black pepper.
Then lettuce wrapped and topped with avocado, onions, tomatoes and bit of mustard. That yummy side are some fried plantains :)
03.11.10 Mixin’ it Up While Networking

Ok, today was a real funky day for eating. Went from good, to ick, and back to good (kind of). I apologize in advance for this novel.
So starting with breakfast was yummy Greek yogurt with fresh strawberries, flaxseed and walnut. My Greek yogurt is supposed to be full fat, but I’m using the last of my 2% that was in my fridge. I’m now out so time to go and buy full fat! And of course had some coffee with heavy whipping cream in the mix.
Lunch, ugh. Major fail. So it was my sisters turn to pick where we eat and she said since we’re having dinner out tonight we should have something cheaper so she picked Taco Bell. Usually I would look at the menu online and figure out what I’m having beforehand, but I figured they’d have a decent selection of salads and Ill just modify to my needs. We get there, and ugh! They have only FOUR SALADS to pick from and each are pretty much a variation from each other! I ended up going with the Chicken Ranch Taco Salad which I modified to all hell and the clerk probably hated me for it. I said no sauces or sour cream, only pico de gallo, and no tortilla strips. And I ordered a Fresco Crunchy Taco (bear with me). Get my salad and it comes in a freakin’ taco shell, which I didn’t touch. It also came with some shredded cheddar cheese and rice at the bottom! The lettuce was mixed with the cheese and chicken so I said eff it, I’ll eat it. But I refused to touch the rice which at least was sitting way at the bottom so it was avoidable. Oh and the crunchy taco, I dumped its contents onto my salad which added some decent flavor because the chicken was so BLAH. Anyway, that was my joke of a lunch that I didn’t even finish. Oh and yeah I had a blast inserting all the ingredients on myplate since it was dissected (enter sarcasm).
So after work I had a Young Professionals Networking Mixer at the new Miyako Japanese Hotel that is near my work. I had never been there and the hotel is very pretty and contemporary and also it is a GREEN hotel (solar panels run it). I had a glass of red wine as I mingled with some people. Met decent people there and made a new friend who is new to the area!
Afterwards my friends and I invited our new friend to come to dinner with us to a place called the Buffalo Firehouse Grill. It is a gourmet burger type of place. Once again I stuck to my guns and kept it primal. I ordered what was called, The Ranchero Burger which is an Angus beef patty, cheddar cheese slice, a fried egg, and lettuce, tomato and onion. I ordered the burger with no buns and no “special sauce” and with a side salad instead of fries. Hooray for me! Ok….ok….so I look at everyone’s dinner choices and you know, for the most part, I wasn’t jealous…the one burger that two of my friends shared that did look amazingly appetizing was what is called, The Mac & Cheese Burger. It may not sound super appetizing but if you saw it, wow. Let me just say it took a lot to not ask to even taste it.
Anyway, so that was my eventful day in eating! That glass of red wine did me good by the way. Totals didn’t turn out too bad, cals were on track, fat/chol are fine, under on carbs (score!), and under on sugars, too? (double score!) Sad that I was so under on fiber though. I lagged on veggies today for sure. I better load up tomorrow. And obviously no fitness today, I had no time literally. After this I’m hopping in my cozy bed in fetal position.
